Join us for 10:30 am Sunday Morning Worship!

County Line Christian Church has a prominent history as the second oldest Christian church in Georgia and celebrates 162 years of continuous Christian service.

In many ways, it is the mother of many of our Georgia churches. It stands today, a bit weather-worn, somewhat weary, but as a proud landmark in our state’s history. This year a new era begins as County Line will act as the new (and first) campus church of Peachtree City Christian Church.

County Line Christian Church was forged from the Georgia frontier by neighbors who became friends. These people, new to this wilderness area, found small clearings and paths which had been carved out by Native Americans. Some paths we still know today such as the McIntosh Trail meandering through several counties. These settlers shared in their work as they built homes, and planted and harvested the land. The community grew and the time came when they recognized the need to give thanks for their many blessings. They first met in homes and later worked together to establish a house of worship.

Between 1830 and 1835, the messages of Alexander Campbell, a leader of the restoration movement, reached the area by way of traveling preachers and in the form of printed tracts. By 1840, families and neighbors had organized a fellowship with Nathan Smith serving as minister and Augustus (Buck) Fears as the first elder. The membership was named County Line Christian because the congregation came from four counties whose boundary lines met near their meeting place.

On January 10, 1843, John and Robert Westmoreland deeded 5 acres of land for a church and cemetery. The original log building burned down in the fifth year and all of the records were destroyed. The strong, prayerful members carefully noted what memories remained among them, and were soon busy with plans for a new church building which remains today and is an ideal facility for a PTC3 campus—four miles from Senoia, 20 miles from PTC, and 15 miles from Griffin.

The past relationship and the future of these two churches seem destined as though by divine appointment. In the church’s entrance foyer is a faded photo of a tall, skinny, young student from East Point, Georgia—George Dillard lll is standing behind the pulpit of the first church in which Dr. Dillard, now the senior minister of Peachtree City Christian Church, ever preached. From April 1981-October 1982, George led the church with the help of family and friends. His mother Carolyn Dillard and sister Kim Dillard taught the children’s ministry and led several successful Vacation Bible Schools at the church. After George left the church to return to college, his father took his place as minister. The Dillards worked diligently for Christ and His church. The church offered Bible School, teacher training classes and Vacation Bible School every year. The church built a new building and continued to grow. Mr. George Dillard, Jr. resigned on July 28, 1985 and Craig Bowen took his place.

In 2000, James (Jim) B. Dressler became the senior minister and continued to preach until June 1, 2010. Stephen Moody, one of the church’s deacons, and Jim worked with George to bring the two churches together. Starting June 1, 2010, Jason Pierce will take over as campus minister. Just as the Dillards did years ago, Jason brings with him his family and friends to work and serve this historic church.

Jason was raised on the south side of Atlanta and has a bachelor’s degree in Biblilcal Studies from Moody Bible Institute (2004) as well as credit hours earned at Trinity Theological Seminary and Reformed Theological Seminary. He is currently in the process of attending Kentucky Christian University in the Master of Arts in Christian Leadership program with an emphasis on preaching. George has been mentoring Jason for the past 12 months and that relationship will continue.

God has chosen this time to bring two churches, two congregations, and two ministers together to serve our community. Both churches see it as an honor and privilege to preserve and continue the historical landmark of County Line Christian Church and as a wonderful opportunity to expand the Peachtree City Christian Church family. The congregation at Peachtree City Christian Church has proudly supported County Line for a number of years through our mission outreach program. There will be many opportunities in which to serve and to nurture the existing and the new life of County Line. Just like families, neighbors, and friends came together more than 162 years ago, they will serve together today in the same spirit. Please participate in the work ahead, in encouraging our leaders, and as we call for volunteers. Work days will be posted in the bulletins and on the church web site.
