Central Japan Christian Mission Japan
Tim Turner is a second-generation missionary to Japan, having been raised in Japan while his parents, Bill and Betty Turner, were missionaries there. During his time at Atlanta Christian College, he met Lisa Spencer whom he married before they returned to Japan as missionaries. Tim and Lisa have four children: Sarah, 14, Katie, 12, Spencer, 9, and Joshua, 6. Converting the Japanese to Christianity is a very difficult and discouraging task. Every baptism is greeted with rejoicing. To reach Japanese students, Tim teaches English at a local college. He teaches English Bible classes in which the students learn English by using the Bible as a textbook. They also have English classes for elementary and junior high students. Lisa teaches English at two kindergartens. Recently, the Turners have moved out of their residence in the new church building and have rented a house not far from there. This move was made primarily to make room for more church activities in the upstairs space. They can use this space now for Sunday School, meetings, nursery, etc. Also, it gives Lisa a few uninterrupted hours a day to home school their children. At present, besides preaching, teaching, ministering to the church people, working with the Christian Camp, they are also working as missionary contacts for Team Expansion. This organization recruits missionaries and is known to many of our churches and is well accepted. They interview, evaluate, and train potential missionaries. One couple has been there for almost a year and another one is expected to come this year. The Turners help them adjust to Japan with paper work, finding housing and places of service in Japan. Another area of work they are involved in is hosting some college students and others from America who come for a short time over the summer to help in any way they can. They find work for them in their church and several other churches in the Tokyo area that have been established by Central Japan Christian Mission. Lisa home schools the three youngest children, while Sarah travels by train to a missionary high school , the Christian Academy in Japan, each day. All the children went to Japanese kindergarten and all speak the Japanese language very well and have Japanese friends. The younger children occasionally visit the Christian Academy in Japan to sit in on classes for a day.
