International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES)
Headquarters: Kempton, Indiana
Milton Bates founded IDES in 1973 with no aspirations of personal fame or gain; it wasn’t about him, it was about "them." He just wanted to help the world’s suffering peoples. The same holds true these 30 years later. IDES is here to serve the Lord by serving those in need -- it’s still about "them." IDES ministers to the physical and spiritual needs of people through five major areas:

Development - helping people help themselves and providing a better way to prevent future trouble. This is done through such projects as wells to make clean water available, farm animals to provide food, septic systems for better health, seeds for the sower, tools with which to make a living, etc.

Disaster - having money in the bank to help with both natural and man-made disasters at a moments notice while allowing time to raise funds for the long-term relief which often follows.

Evangelism - "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul" - Mark 8: 36. Many relief organizations minister to the body. IDES’ concern reaches beyond the physical need to the spiritual with it’s eternal results.

Hunger - There are many hunger statistics; none good. One report states that 23 children die each minute from hunger-related causes and preventable diseases. No organization can meet all of these needs; but we can reach those with whom our missionaries work, if we all work together, each doing our part like the wall builders in Nehemiah 3. What an exciting concept.
